Sedimentary characteristics and morphologic change of till-bedded semi-alluvial streams: Medway Creek, Southern Ontario, Canada

چکیده
We describe the first detailed reach-scale study of an incisional till-bed river. Our analysis focusses on boundary till characteristics, bare patch features, annual erosion rates, bedform dimensions and spacing, grain size distributions bedforms. Results show that exposures constitute a relatively small portion bed rates are high compared to bedrock rivers, although highly variable between patches within patches. The bedforms not well organized in terms spacing morphologic variability. sediment forming is poorly sorted, sizes variability ranging from fines large boulders, gravel contribution alluvium small. found evidence some situ transport rounding clasts. As expected, riffles steps coarser while glides pools finer-grained. Sedimentary stability metrics unstable, more stable. These results indicate morphology sedimentology till-bedded rivers differ substantially their alluvial counterparts variety ways. Consequently, we recommend semi-alluvial be differentiated future channel classifications. Such practice will useful for river research practitioners' community gain appropriate tools needed assessment, management, restoration practices these rivers.

Assessing the responses of creek chub (Semotilus atromaculatus) and pearl dace (Semotilus margarita) to metal mine effluents using in situ artificial streams in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.
Mining of the world's second-largest nickel deposits in the area of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, has caused acidification and metal saturation of some catchments. We conducted artificial stream studies in the years 2001 and 2002 to assess the effects of treated metal mine effluents (MMEs) from three different mining operations discharging to Junction Creek, Sudbury, on two fish species, creek chub...
متن کاملSedimentary processes and sediment dispersal in the southern Strait of Georgia, BC, Canada.
This paper presents a review of sediment dispersal processes in the Strait of Georgia, based on marine geological studies. Sediment from the Fraser River is dispersed around the Strait through a variety of transport pathways. Most sand and coarser silt fractions settle out and are deposited within a few 100 m of the channel mouths. Both channelled and non-channelled gravity flows probably trans...
متن کاملQuaternary alluvial fans in the Gobi of southern Mongolia: evidence for neotectonics and climate change
Alluvial fans in southern Monglia occur along a group of narrow discontinuous mountain ranges which formed as transpressional uplifts along a series of strike-slip faults. They provide information on the nature of neotectonic activity in the eastern Gobi Altai range and on palaeoclimate change. Alluvial fan formation was dominated by various geomorphological processes largely controlled by clim...
متن کاملEstimation of the Underlying Burden of Pertussis in Adolescents and Adults in Southern Ontario, Canada
Despite highly successful vaccination programs and high vaccine uptake, both endemic pertussis and periodic pertussis outbreaks continue to occur. The under-recognized role of adolescents and adults in disease transmission, due to waning immunity following natural infection and vaccination, and reduced likelihood of correct diagnosis, may contribute to pertussis persistence. We constructed a ma...
